Multi-Implicit Spectral Deferred Correction Methods:
Evolution of a Flamelet

Flamelet
An idealized one-dimensional flame. Choice of physical parameters and initial conditions is based on the study of unsteady nonpremixed flames, in which the initial data corresponds roughly to pure fuel in one portion of the domain and pure oxidizer in the other (red and blue lines in figure).

In this example, the advection velocity is a time-modulated and periodic function, the diffusivity is small, and the reaction rate is large; the dynamics of the resulting system are concentrated in a thin, nonsteady reaction zone or flamelet.
