2D Turbulence Studies
Sorin Mitran High resolution spectral simulationsUsing SpectralMPI a number of high resolution numerical studies of 2D turbulence are being carried out. Concurrent computations are being done for quasigeostrophic turbulence. Forced 2D turbulenceAnimation of vorticity field - 2.4 MB MPEG file, 500 image frames, 2048x2048 resolved wavenumbers, 6144x6144 real space grid (3/2 de-aliasing), excitation at k=13. Each 6144x6144 image has been pixel averaged down to a 384x384 image in order to obtain a manageable animation file size. Simultaneous animations of spectra and vorticity field128x128 resolved wavenumbers (3 MB) 256x256 resolved wavenumbers (6 MB) Freely decaying 2D turbulenceAnimation of vorticity field - 2.4 MB MPEG file, 500 image frames, 2048x2048 resolved wavenumbers, 6144x6144 real space grid (3/2 de-aliasing). Initial field obtained by successive excitation at k=5,17,37,91, and then adding a small background white noise. Each 6144x6144 image has been pixel averaged down to a 384x384 image in order to obtain a manageable animation file size.
