At a fluid contact line the continuum fluid dynamics equations are no longer valid due to the very small scales involved. The micrscopic effects can be modeled by a boundary condition but it is difficult to derive this theoretically. Another way of determining the boundary condition is by carrying out molecular dynamics computations of the contact line region.
