Adobe Acrobat - PDF
- PCs running Windows 95 or NT 4.0
To view Adobe's PDF files, the Acrobat
file viewer must be installed on your PC. The acroreader software is free
to download. Click here for the download and installation instructions.
- UNIX Machines
The Applied Math UNIX Systems have the Adobe Acroreader software installed on all machines. To use it, type:
When viewing PDF files from within netscape, the acroread viewer should launch automatically.
If you are on another UNIX System and you don't have access to Acroread, ask your Systems Administrator to install the Acroreader.
Postscript - ps

Aladdin
GSView is
freely downloadable postscript (and PDF) file viewer for the PC.
GSview can be used as a viewer for
IBM WebExplorer,
NCSA Mosaic,
Netscape Navigator
and
Internet Explorer.

NOTE: GSView can convert postscript files into text files! It doesn't do a great job (ie all formatting is gone), but it get's it into text so you can then load it into word and redo the formatting.
- UNIX Machines
The Applied Math UNIX Systems have several applications for viewing postscript files.
The application ghostview is the father of GSView but for UNIX. To run ghostview, type:
Another application for viewing postscript files is gv. 'gv' is a 3D X application that allows you to view PDF files as well. To use gv, type:
NOTE: Both of these applications require that Aladdin Ghostscript be installed.
If you are on another UNIX System and you don't have access to ghostview or gv, ask your Systems Administrator to install them.
Microsoft Word / Excel
- PCs running Windows 95 or NT 4.0
Run Microsoft's appropriate program.
- UNIX Machines
Sun Microsystems has released a PC File Viewer for the Solaris 2.6 operating system when used with CDE 1.2 or above.
I'm still working on hacking this code to run on Solaris 2.5.1 under fvwm.
